Pennsylvania History
Pennsylvania originally belonged to four Native American tribes. In the 1640s the first people from Europe arrived in Pennsylvania. The King of England took over Pennsylvania in 1664. King Charles the II was the king. 15 years later King Charles gave William Penn the land known as Pennsylvania. The state was name after William Penn’s father who had recently passed away. King Charles owed Williams father money so to pay off his debt he gave this land to William. Philadelphia was where important government meetings were held . In the late 1700s two important documents were written there. These are The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution.
